If freckles were lovely, and day was night,
And measles were nice and a lie warn’t a lie,
Life would be delight, —
But things couldn’t go right
For in such a sad plight
I wouldn’t be I.
If earth was heaven and now was hence,
And past was present, and false was true,
There might be some sense
But I’d be in suspense
For on such a pretense
You wouldn’t be you.
If fear was plucky, and globes were square,
And dirt was cleanly and tears were glee
Things would seem fair, —
Yet they’d all despair,
For if here was there
We wouldn’t be we.

having been in a 7-year relationship with an absolutely amazing person, many would think that i could come up with all the secret, but hopefully universal, solutions to feeling insecure and doubtful in a relationship. i mean we spent at least 4 out of the 7-year relationship being physically apart, interspersed by short intervals of physical contact yearly. we, each, individually, had all the space in the world; we lived practically separate lives, going about with our own daily lives in two lands separated thousands of miles apart. only when night falls, or when some times we are reminded of each other then we pick up the phone to ask how each other are doing, in mutually reassuring tones. we learnt things about each other, things that we'd never would have thought we were brave enough to show another human being.and by trust, we shared a connection so strong emotionally and spiritually. we grew up, separately, differently, but surely, we grew. and the unfortunate fact was, we grew apart.
and yet, we know of couples, who can be very much similar to each other, or they could seem like they are two worlds apart, who would take advantage of the solace they find in each others' company and stick to each other like... gum in your hair. they call each other day and night, have pet names for each other that they are not afraid to use in public, brush their teeth together, cook pasta and chicken together, see no other people in their world...the list could draw on and on. it would seem absurd to many other people how these couples could function when they tread on each others' private space so much to an extent that much majority would think they are mutually infringing each others' rights to grow as individuals. they would see other almost 24-7 and yet, you could still hear the usual sermon-like chants "ARE YOU FREAKIN CHEATING ON ME?!", "AM I TOO FAT FOR YOU?!"
the point to take home, i think, is that every body is unique in their very own ways. and this is the main reason why i've always chose to believe in love. because no two men are ever the same. no two relationships are ever the same. there are no universal solutions that could solve your 'doubt- burden', or even come close to that. relationships are governed by fear. we could only find solace and comfort in the possibility that we cold find enough in us to overcome it and that maybe, just maybe, the other person is willing to hold your hands through it.
